Carlos Diéguez González

The research activity of Professor Diéguez is centered in the field of endocrinology. His professional career began in the UK, in the Department of Medicine, Cardiff (Wales). His work was focused on the alteration of growth hormones (GH), and has helped to establish the pathophysiologic basis of alterations in GH secretion in diseases such as obesity, diabetes, hypo- and hyperthyroidism, fibromyalgia, etc. He has an extensive teaching career at the Faculty of Medicine of Santiago de Compostela, with special focus on the area of Physiology at pre and postgraduate level in the field of endocrinology. In the area of management he has done important work in various fields: director of the interfacultative Department of Physiology at the USC, president of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition, manager of the research program on Fundamental Biology and Health at the MEC, project assessment coordinator at the Carlos III Institute and director of the Health Research Institute of Santiago accredited by the Institute of Health Carlos III (ISCIII), an director of the CIMUS, a Biomedical Research Institute created by the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC).
